Morphe Animal Testing Policy
Morphe’s animal testing policy can be found in the FAQ section of their website. Here is what is says.
“We’re cruelty-free, Morphe Babe. That means we do not test any of our products on animals and we do not test any of our ingredients on animals. Instead, we choose to test drive our products on people (with their permission, of course).”
This was not enough information so I contacted Morphe directly and asked for clarification on their animal testing policy. I asked the following questions:
- Do you test on animals at any point during the production of your products?
- Are your ingredients tested on animals by your suppliers?
- Does any third-party test on animals on your behalf?
- Do you test on animals when required by law?
Morphe emailed me the following response:
“Thanks for asking such an important question. We’re happy to say that we’re cruelty-free.
That means we do not test any of our products on animals and we do not test any of our ingredients on animals. Instead, we choose to test-drive our products on people (with their permission, of course). Per our Code of Conduct, we only source natural hair that is a byproduct from the food chain or harvested in an ethical manner, not causing harm or endangering any animals.
At this time, we do not have the information on our website to present to you; however, we genuinely value your feedback and understand the importance of transparency for this topic, we will share your thoughts with our leadership team, and we hope to have additional information for you in the future.”
I emailed them again because I still wasn’t clear on a few things. This time I asked for simple ‘yes or no’ answers to my previous questions.
Morphe answered no to all of my questions.
Does Morphe Test on Animals?
No, Morphe does not test on animals. After emailing back and forth, they were able to answer no to all of my questions.
Is Morphe Certified Cruelty-Free?
No, Morphe is not a certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny, PETA, or Choose Cruelty-Free.
Is Morphe Sold in China?
The Morphe website allows you to change the country so that the pricing and shipping information is correct. I changed this information to China then found the recommended Authorized retailers.
At first glance, the bottom three websites (cross-border) looked like they are Chinese retailers. If true, then Morphe would not be considered to be cruelty-free.
Well, being the nerd that I am I translated the pages and found out they are an ‘Overseas Direct Supplier.’ Basically, they list the items on their Chinese website, but the products are being shipped directly from the suppliers to China.
For example, say a beauty junkie from Beijing bought the Morphe eyeshadow palette from this site. The site will process the order and then Morphe will ship the product from somewhere other than China (maybe from Australia) to Beijing. They’re basically dropshipping the products.

Is Morphe Owned by a Parent Company?
No, Morphe is a privately owned company.
Is Morphe Vegan?
Morphe does have numerous vegan products available but finding them is a bit of a pain. So, here are just a few from their FAQ section.
If you need more vegan options, then just type in ‘vegan’ in the search and you’ll have 30 pages of products to choose from!

Wrap Up: Is Morphe Cruelty-Free?
Yes, Morphe is a cruelty-free makeup brand. After contacting them directly, they were able to verify that they:
- Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals
- Don’t allow others to conduct animal testing on their behalf
But when I dug deeper into their website it looked like they sold in China. After further research, I found that they are using cross-border e-commerce which allows them to keep current manufacturing practices without animal testing.
Therefore, Morphe will be added to my list of cruelty-free brands. You can buy their makeup via their website, Ulta, and on at their authorized Amazon store.
